God dammit, Techland!

I was really excited to get to play Dead Island. I heard it was one of the most realistic zombie games in comparison to all of the zombie games on the market, and by the gods that made me happy. Plants vs. Zombies uses zombies in the loosest sense; Project Zomboid is an incomplete tech demo; Stubbs: Rebel Without a Pulse goes for an oldie vibe that doesn't fit with my modern sense of zombies; Resident Evil has the most awful camera angles for video games and the shittiest "zombie" bosses; Dead Rising lost its sense of novelty after the first few hours of doing the same zombie bashing and losing weapons over and over again. So you see, I really was looking forward to this experience because I am picky about my type of zombie game as an avid zombie fan.

I was a little apprehensive when I heard that you, Techland, were developing Dead Island. After all, you do have a bit of a reputation as a B-rated developer, what with Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood being a decent, but not really mind-blowing game and The Cartel apparently being the buggiest piece of shit game ever.

My fears were quelled when I saw the initial screens for the game and that first trailer premiering DI was absolutely gorgeous. I was hopeful, and I have remained so.

Now, you've crushed me. Apparently, PC gamers are nothing to you, Techland. Steam users have reported that Dead Island is buggy as hell on the PC and that certain lines of XML code revealed that the PC version was pulled from the 360.

Look, fine. If you're going to make a PC port of a game... that's fine and dandy. I understand. You can only develop specifically for one platform. But... put in some effort dammit!

I was thinking about buying this game. But if it is as bad as you say it is, in terms of how well it plays and runs on PC, I'm gonna have to let it pass.
So sad.... Sad

They're patching it soon, but I don't want a shitty console port... Not for $50.

Hehe, that's what I thought of GTA4. That game seems like a very bad port to PC as well Sad

I was looking forward to this game on PS3. It sucked. Played the Xbox version, better graphics but still sucked. PC, you guys got that.

"An early version of Dead Island has been released on Steam.

A pre-release developer's build was released to the online store in place of the final version and has made its way into the hands of early purchasers. This early build features lines of code referring to it as an "Xbox Live Submission Project Version" and includes at least forty known bugs.

According to Develop, developer Techland is working on a patch to correct the problem that will be available to customers later today.

Publisher Deep Silver issued the following statement: "We apologize for any issues you may have experienced while playing the game. The final patched version will be made available on Steam to North American players today." The company also added that it "deeply regrets that it was not possible to make the final patched version of Dead Island available to players at launch."

Dead Island was released in stores for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC today."

They accidentally released the dev build on PC from what I've seen. It will be fixed by Thrusday or Friday.

Thankfully I won't have to worry about this. Tongue

Yeah, they confirmed non-North American territories won't have this problem, since the patch will be up by then.

I am wondering this as well.  I feel like they should, because this is a rather stupid and lame mistake. Sad

I have the game, and it is an awesome game once you get around the few bugs.

Only three have plagued me (that I can remember at this moment):

1) Sometimes there is extremely loud crackling noises that are nearly painful, and made me nearly throw my headset off from fear of going deaf, luckily, this doesn't happen, unfortunately, it's random so it can strike at any moment.
2) For me at least (and the person I was playing it with) had troubles connecting online and the only way we could play together was with hamachi.
3) Random crashing. While this never happened in game, it sometimes crashed on the main menu.

Even with these bugs, it is still a great game. Hopefully all this will be patched very soon.

1: Its because the game has problems with USB headphones.
2: Yes, I recommend using Hamachi until Techland gets their act together
3: Check your memory usage.

I have a Bug thread on steam forums for Dead Island here Smiley

although it wasn't an image file... and there are some things in the game which lead me to think its the xbox version somehow made for pc?
ie when i go to break down a door it shows the right analog stick telling me what to do...
