Title: Mass Effect 3 Ending to be Changed
Post by: taylynne on March 21, 2012, 03:42:13 PM

Well, I personally haven't played through me3 yet for a mix of reasons, but I'm sure plenty of you have heard of hate for the ending.  Perhaps some of you have played through and also hate it.  (If you do, try to watch out for spoilers!)

Now the ending has gotten plenty of attention, the fans have raged and demonstrated that they demand for a new ending.  They set up "Retake Mass Effect (http://retakemasseffect.chipin.com/retake-mass-effect-childs-play)," a donation to child's play, and made nearly 77,000 dollars, with nearly 4,000 donators!  In fact, it has gotten so bad, that amazon is offering FULL refunds  (http://www.analoghype.com/video-games/playstation-3-news/amazon-offering-a-full-refund-on-already-opened-copies-of-mass-effect-3/)to already opened copies of Mass Effect 3!

Well, Bioware Co-Founder and general manager Ray Muzyka announced today that they will remake the ending for Mass Effect 3.  He has said this on their blog:

As co-founder and GM of BioWare, Im very proud of the ME3 team; I personally believe Mass Effect 3 is the best work weve yet created. So, its incredibly painful to receive feedback from our core fans that the games endings were not up to their expectations. Our first instinct is to defend our work and point to the high ratings offered by critics but out of respect to our fans, we need to accept the criticism and feedback with humility.
Building on their research, Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. Youll hear more on this in April.  Were working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback weve received.  This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue.
If you are a Mass Effect fan and have input for the team we respect your opinion and want to hear it. Were committed to address your constructive feedback as best we can. In return, Id ask that you help us do that by supporting what I truly believe is the best game BioWare has yet crafted. I urge you to do your own research: play the game, finish it and tell us what you think. Tell your friends if you feel its a good game as a whole. Trust that we are doing our damndest, as always, to address your feedback.  As artists, we care about our fans deeply and we appreciate your support.

Thank you for your feedback we are listening.

You can read everything he said here (http://blog.bioware.com/2012/03/21/4108/).  As for the ending, we will see what approach they plan to take; free dlc, paid dlc, complete replacement of the original endings..  I am not sure.  I think it is funny how he claims the ending really depends on all of your choices, while so many of the complaints I've heard have a lot to do with the fact that all of your choices are irrelevant.

I am surprised at how bad this ending supposedly is, and I'm surprised of the way some people are acting.

EDIT:  Reading about it and thinking some, I am reminded of Misery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misery_(novel)).  If you haven't read or seen the film, Family Guy has a parody of it you can look up and get the jist of it.  Basically, a woman takes in and nurses back to health the author of her favourite book series.  He had just finished the final book, and she took it upon herself to read it.  She did not like the ending, and demanded/forced him to rewrite it.

I do not care for the layout of origin, as well as some other things about it... but it is no where near as bad as GFWL.  It really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. :( Though the download is much slower, from my experience

Hope that this ending is a lot better. The real one sucked! I wanted a refund!
