Ea has offered to buy valve for 1 billion dollars, even tho the company is "rumoured" to be worth 3 billion (and Newell's personal worth at 1.5 billion)... The talks between the two companies didn't last long, and they were denied.

Gabe Newell had this to say about it:

Quote
Mr. Newell said that there was a better chance that Valve would “disintegrate,” its independent-minded workers scattering, than that it would ever be sold.

“It’s way more likely we would head in that direction than say, ‘Let’s find some giant company that wants to cash us out and wait two or three years to have our employment agreements terminate,’ ” he says.

It is nice to know that Gabe would rather 'disintegrate' rather than sellout!

It is very nice to hear, Mr. Gaben.

What do you guys think?

oh.. and side note for forum users/readers: we'll be looking to have a simple event/giveaway sometime this week! Smiley

Lol, stupid EA. You guys can't even compare with Valve. Has your ego really gotten so big that you actually thought you could buy out one of the greatest game companies ever?

I'm glad that they have not bought Valve. It would mean the end of Steam as we know it!

That's the dumbest reason to try to buy steam.... Doesn't EA have that crappy ORIGIN service?

Well not to mention steam (and valve) have grown so much in such a short time... and valve was one of the first pioneers digital store / client for games...

It is a "smart" (yet stupid) move for ea to try to buy.  Would expand them and so on... but stupid cause  valve really is bigger and should know how Gabe feels about them.

Just glad they didn't sell to them (tho maybe they would have stopped with origin and brought all their games over to steam...)

Well, thats simply One strange move from EA, considering valve's meaning of Them, and the simple fact that they bid Way below value

Maybe they see valve as a competition that's why they are trying to buy it. Smiley

oh yeah valve is competition, if only for steam!  ..they tried to take the easy way out and lost.  It's good for us, for more than just steam: EA thinks steam sales hurt the gaming industry/community and don't believe in sales more than 50% off (or something along those lines; which is funny since their games that are on steam have all gone on sale for 66%++ off).
