Call of Duty Elite, Activision's planned monthly-subscription multiplayer service for Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3, is now taking applications for its closed beta. For everyone who is interested in trying their luck in getting an invite for the closed beta should sign up at the Call of Duty Elite website and provide their email, date-of-birth (because that's not something that's easily lied about), and the platform they want to beta test on.

Personally, I'm not a giant fan of monthly subscriptions. I like paying ONE time for my games, and have it be done with. If I feel like shelling out more money for a game, I'll gladly buy its DLCs. Obviously, all the Youtube users who trolled the following Call of Duty Elite trailer, agree with me:

It's F2P, it just has features that you have to pay to get.... Saw it somewhere on Robert Bowling's twitter. Not greedy, just copying the one thing that EVERY MMO has in common. Smart move to increase money.

Eh. Honestly not a fan of the F2P. It is a smart move that Western gaming companies have started adopting from the East, but it's just a thing I've never really gotten into. I'm going to go sit in my curmudgeon cave now.

I don't mind F2P games, so long as the paid "upgrades" don't ridiculously imbalance the game.

Yeah, but the perks also have to be good enough so that people are willing to pay money. So really, in the end, whether or not you really want it, those who pay are going to have the unfair advantage.

All those who do get it, I hope you guys will upload snapshots/videos of the interface and the perk system. Its cool if you cannot upload the game play because of security norms, but I want to see how the interface and the leveling system works and how balanced it is compared to other free to play games.

Oljer is right, it's NOT a game. It's a service that you pay a monthly fee for, and for that you get stats, groups/clans, competitions, tutorials, map overviews and alike. It is not a game, and was never meant to be. It is a service you can pay for. So far it will only support Black Ops, and Modern Warfare 3 when it comes out. It seems like you got some wrong information Catherine, don't know where you got it from.

Bleh, I should of payed attention to the site and watched the video... Anyway, that means I misunderstood Robert Bowling, which means you will NOT need to pay to get stats. Not sure about the rest.

Anyway, Bungie has been doing some of that stuff quite awhile. The maps with the "heat spots" that shows where you've been dieing / killing at? In action since Halo 3... This stuff should all be free, regardless.

Sent my application, so if I ever get in it (they could check my email, it's the same that got me into Battlefield Play4Free, section 8 prejudice and others, which would give me higher chances) I'll let you guys know.
