EA and Valve seem to be in conflict these days. Since EA's new digital distribution service, Origin, launched, there's been a bit of backdoor strife between the two companies. Even though Origin hasn't been directly involved, I'm pretty damned sure that it has something to do with the fact that a lot of EA games seem to be conveniently dropping from Steam's shelves.

First, it was Crysis 2 being pulled from the shelves... then Alice: Madness Returns, although that was restored on Steam after the first day of sale. Valve has yet to say much about the issue. EA's current position is to shrug its shoulders and make it look like it's Valve's fault, stating that Crysis 2 was pulled from Steam because Valve wasn't happy that Crysis 2's DLC was available on Direct2Drive, but not Valve.

The newest game to disappear? Dragon Age 2. It's still available on other digital platforms. I'm guessing that these circumstances are probably similar to Crysis 2. (Hint: Dragon Age 2's DLC just recently came out. Interesting? Interesting.)

Is EA even allowed to do this? They published DA2 and Crysis 2, meaning they are essentially making Bioware and Crytek lose money. Isn't it ultimately the developer's choice? Makes me wonder if Bioware and Crytek will drop EA as a publisher.

Naw it isn't. Why? Because the developer is just at the creative end. They're getting bankrolled by EA. Any profits that EA gets Bioware/Crytek will get a share of.

I dunno about Crytek, but I'm pretty sure EA bought up Bioware, so technically Bioware doesn't have much of a say...

Crytek is not owned by EA actually. EA just publishes their games.

You don't care about EA games? I'm guessing nobody ever played Mass Effect.

I know Crytek isn't owned by them, didn't know Bioware was though. Essentially, shouldn't it be Crytek's decision on where their games are sold? It is THEIR game. It sounds like EA needs some help... The guys there must be mentally ill.

Crytek isn't the one doing the work for publishing :/  so if they want a say in it they'd probably have to go look for different publishers.

I like EA games, but most I have aren't on steam anyway.  The only one I have is ME2, the rest I have are retail or I bought on EA (before origin) during a sale.
However, I have to say that this is rather annoying on their part, but I'm sure it'll get the effects they want.  Some people really want their ea games, and come when ME3 comes out, I'm sure many will willingly stray from steam for it.  Of course there are those people who will refuse to buy anything that's not on steam, but those people won't cause a  huge "loss" for EA.
And they just put the sims 3 on steam, watch them take that down soon enough.
