I swear to god, the only things I'm writing about in news these days are about MMOs that are going free-to-play. This free-to-play business has caught on faster than the LulzSec hacking business in the gaming world.

Free-to-play gamers are limited to two characters. They also will have limits placed upon raids, bank space, and dungeons, to name a few. Other features such as veteran points, offline levels, and sieges will only be available in paid subscription.

This summer seems to be the summer of free-to-play. This is the ripest time for you to be trying out new MMOs, my fellow Puggers. So get to it.

You think the hackers made a secret pact with the devs to release free to play games or they will hack even more?

The idea behind this F2P format is, of course, to gather up user base. F2P itself isn't anything new, but what makes this "new wave" such a boom, is the micropayments. Devs looking to find a balance bethween users and revenue by offering a free game for everyone available, but maintaining the game itself online by offering some neat stuff for the ones willing to pay for it. This usually means an array of costumes, possibly a premium service with additional servers for less laggy play, experience bonuses and so on. But what makes this concept so hard, is the trick not to break balance bethween free play, and cool bonuses.

Hope this clarified.

Indeed. F2P hit the asian markets first and was really popular there. I just... really hate the F2P style, probably just because of the stigma that's associated with "free" in games.

This will be same type as WoW is moving to i believe. Free for so long just enough to get those hooked to start paying.

Indeed. And this tactic works. You just need to find the right game. For instance... Vindictus. >_>
